Collective Dreams: An Introduction to Cinematic Language

$40.00

Instructor: Travis Loving, Studio D Peak
Description:
Often when we think of movies, we think of entertainment, excitement, and special effects. To be sure, movies are these things, but they are also much more. They are our collective dreams. Films provide an avenue for us to explore our fears, desires and values - they represent a continuous dialogue with ourselves about who we are and our place in the universe. This course will be an introduction to film as collective dream and will focus on exploring the basic language of cinema. We will screen and discuss 4 films: Big Fish (2003) [PG-13], Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) [PG], Song of the Sea (2014) [PG], and Across the Universe (2007) [PG-13]. We will screen the films together during the first portion of the class and follow up with discussion and exploration of the film.

Note: The course will explore a variety of complex topic areas and is meant for individuals over 13 years of age.

Dates: Sunday January 28th, February 25th, March 24th, and April 28th
Time:
4:00pm - 7:00pm

Cost: Series $40
